The third and final part of the album trilogy ‘Dance With The Ghosts’ is dedicated to the theme of optimism.
How is it that a project that aims to address political content with the means of instrumental music turns to the topic of optimism?

I believe that optimism is a necessity if we want to be and remain capable of acting. Confidence does not mean that we ignore existing problems, but that we do not believe ourselves to be a tiny, small part of a larger, inscrutably complex whole and that we still feel a kind of drive to create within this structure.

It is now clear from a number of studies that many young people today (at least in Europe) are afraid when they think about the future. On the one hand, there is the fear of climate change, poverty, the shift to the right, marginalisation, careers, illness and, for the last two years, the fear of war, which has become a reality for many.

I'm lucky myself, because I'm generally a very optimistic person. And although, as a freelance musician with children, I should be an expert when it comes to uncertainty, I can often sympathise with the fear. There are just those moments! And be it the fear for the generations after me.

But how can you deal with this fear? Of course, I only have my own very personal answer to this. It helps me in moments of anxiety and loss of thought to make music. Or to listen to it. It gives me confidence - one of the most important reasons why I always carry at least one small instrument with me.

So on this album you can hear sounds that are deliberately intended to inspire optimism and help drive me forward.
Anyone who knows me or the project knows that this claim excludes nothing in the sonic spectrum. I even believe that this album is stylistically more diverse than some of my others.
In any case, it contains sounds with a broad view of the horizon.

The programme includes compositions for individual musicians as well as several duos and a piece for trio.
The works are tailored to the individual performers and are therefore very different. The opportunity to work with unimaginably impressive musicians again is very enriching and valuable for me!

For this recording, I had the opportunity to record on two pianos at the same time.
The instruments were arranged so that they were facing each other and I was able to find my position between the keyboards.

Playing on two pianos is interesting because it opens up the possibility of carefully preparing one of the two instruments with various metal objects such as rings, coins, chains, screws and magnets, with woods, rubbers, modelling clay, pins etc. in order to change its sounds (especially the timbre).
At the same time, however, you also have access to the second piano in its ‘natural state’. This combination not only allows flexibility in the recording process, but is also extremely inspiring and promotes creative, new results.

May the sounds not only bring joy, but also inspire optimism in special times.
